Every Saturday in Heraklion in the district of Pateles, an open air street market, is the main event of the day. Here one can find many goods such as fresh vegetables and fruits, clothes, shoes, fabrics and local products in very cheap prices. The atmosphere feels oriental and the screams of the vendors amuses whoever passes.
After one and a half hour at the market, we get on our bus for a tour
around the city by the most worthwhile sites in Heraklion. At the Liberty Square we get off our bus , and we have two hours free to admire the center of Heraklion. Through the stone – paved Deadalou Street , you can reach of the Lions with the famous Venetian “Morozini” fountain , the basilica of Saint Mark , the Loggia Monument, the church of Saint Titos and the old picturesque Venetian harbor with the fortress of “ La rocca al mare” or “ Koules”. Souvenir shops, boutiques, jewelry stores , cafes , and restaurants you find on your way, to complete the day before we leave the town.
